How would you describe the current political situation of the working-class youth in your country today?

The situation for the young population (aged 15 to 29) -numbering 31.1 million- is one of extreme precariousness. Of these, 15.6 million are employed, and 67.4% of them lack labor rights. Seven out of every ten young Mexican workers have no labor protections. Furthermore, 64% do not earn the national minimum wage ($524.96 USD per month; in states along the U.S. border, this figure is $734.59 USD). The prevailing labor logic in Mexico is to provide foreign capital with cheap, exploitative labor. Amid the U.S.–China trade war, the imperialist policy of "nearshoring" seeks to relocate American industries away from China, with Vietnam, India, and Mexico emerging as primary destinations. Mexico’s economic dependence on the United States is absolute: 83% of all Mexican exports are destined for the U.S. market.

Is the youth in your country taking action against war economy and preparation or in solidarity with Palestine?

Mexican youth have shown solidarity with the Palestinian cause since the onset of the current genocide in November 2023, organizing encampments on university campuses across the country. In Mexico, we unfortunately experience the politics of war on a daily basis. In 2006, the country was subjected to militarization, and in 2008, George Bush signed the Mérida Initiative, which led to a massive influx of U.S. weaponry into Mexico. The result has been half a million deaths and approximately 130,000 disappearances. This has sparked numerous historic protest movements; perhaps the most emblematic is the one surrounding the forced disappearance of 43 students from a rural teachers college in the state of Guerrero -one of the poorest states in the country- in 2014. The disappearance was carried out by local and federal police, with the knowledge of the military. Currently, there are also major mobilizations in the city of Guadalajara against the privatization of water.

From your organization’s perspective, what are the political objectives of this upcoming conference, and how can it strengthen our collective efforts?

The upcoming conference must address the need to develop an international program for the struggle for socialism. Across Latin America, the so-called progressive—or reformist—movement has entered a period of decline; regional far-right electoral victories represent a setback for parties attempting to grant limited concessions to the working class. In the current phase of the crisis of capital, the living conditions of workers will inevitably fail to improve unless the socially produced wealth is expropriated—a step that the progressives are unwilling to take. At this juncture, there is an urgent, unavoidable need to rebuild socialist parties that can serve as a vanguard for the working class and play a fundamental role in securing vital gains in the face of crisis and war. From Mexico, the Revolutionary Action Group will agitate around the resolutions of this conference and will share information regarding the situation of comrades in other countries, drawing on the firsthand perspectives they provide.
