Repressions in Russia

Detenciones en 2022

With the onset of large-scale war, all the repressive practices have intensified. New repressive laws on defamation against the army and military disinformation essentially prohibit any information differing from that provided by the Ministry of Defense. Many media outlets have closed, been blocked, or subjected to even greater self-censorship. Over the past two years, thousands of criminal cases have been initiated, tens of thousands of administrative proceedings, and hundreds of individuals and organizations have been listed as foreign agents. The amount of data prohibited from dissemination (including music and memes) and blocked resources is colossal.

It is worth noting that attempts to set fire to military enlistment offices or sabotage railway equipment have indeed begun in various parts of the country, most of them involved through fraudulent means. The government have been used this to held new criminalization against leftist and people’s fighters.

The most famous prisoner of conscience among the left is sociologist and Marxist Professor Boris Kagarlitsky, designated a “foreign agent” and listed as a “terrorist.” Kagarlitsky was first arrested in the late Brezhnev era in the USSR on charges related to samizdat and the “Young Socialists” group. Creator “RABKOR”

Anarcho-communist Azat Miftakhov, a graduate student at a leading university and internationally recognized talented mathematician, endured torture after his arrest, refused to incriminate himself, and spent many years in detention. He was rearrested on new terrorism-related charges after being free for only 30 seconds.

Union organizer and Marxist Anton Orlov is imprisoned on fabricated civil charges, considered a political prisoner. Darya Kozyreva is in pretrial detention under charges of discrediting the army, previously expelled from university with administrative fines on the same charge. She too is a political prisoner. There are tens and hundreds of leftists across the country, supported by families and support teams.

Another well-known leftist “foreign agent” is Andrey Rudoi, a leading member of the left-wing media team “VestnikBuri” (Stormbringer). The editorial team attempts to compile the most comprehensive list possible of all incarcerated individuals whose leftist views form the basis of accusations and collects support for leftist prisoners.

The repression in union’s movement is so extended that the Ministry of Justice has listed the IndustriALL Global Union (ILO) as an undesirable organization, cooperation with which may result in imprisonment.

Repressions in Russia under Putin involves the violation of basic political and civil rights and freedoms, even formally guaranteed by the Constitution. We support the efforts of the Revolutionary Left and the worker and popular movement against Putin and for union and political freedom, without compromising with the West or the NATO, one of the sides of the war. The main enemy is on our own country!
